She&#8217;s done the legwork and would like to share it with fellow parents!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hello! As you may have heard, Tourette Syndrome is now a qualifying condition for medical marijuana in the State of New Jersey. As with any medication, the decision to use it is strictly between your family and your physician. If you feel this is something you would like to look into, you will find the steps below for the process. From start to finish, the process takes about 3 weeks if you have all of your paperwork in order.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NJ Medical Marijuana Program \u201cHow-to\u201d Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program website at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/\">http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Find a doctor who is part of the NJMMP: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/patients\/find-doctor\/\">http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/patients\/find-doctor\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Schedule your appointment. You will need to bring with you:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Tourette Syndrome diagnosis from a doctor<\/li>\n<li>Letter from Child psychologist claiming they believe child is a good candidate for the program and that the family does not have a history of substance abuse<\/li>\n<li>Identification for the child and caregiver\n<ul>\n<li>Caregiver must bring a recent bill with their name and address for id purposes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>The doctor might not accept insurance, so be prepared to pay approximately $100.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>The doctor\u2019s office will start the registration process for you and give you the Attending Physician Statement. This will have your id and reference numbers on it.<\/li>\n<li>You will also receive a NJ Universal Fingerprint form from the doctor\u2019s office.<\/li>\n<li>Go to: <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.ibtfingerprint.com\/\">https:\/\/nj.ibtfingerprint.com\/<\/a> \u00a0to schedule a time to get fingerprinted (you cannot do this until you have the paperwork from the doctor).<\/li>\n<li>You will need to pay a fee of about $62.00 when you schedule your appointment.\n<ul>\n<li>You will be given a list of locations to choose from<\/li>\n<li>You will need to bring the Attending Physician form, NJ Universal Fingerprint form, and ID with you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The background check will take approximately 2-4 weeks.<\/li>\n<li>You will be notified via email that your application has been reviewed. You will be prompted to log in and pay a fee for your ID cards (approximately $100).\n<ul>\n<li>You should receive your cards in the mail in about 1 week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>11. Once you receive your card you can go to a dispensary near you. A list can be found on the website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/alt-treatment-centers\/\">http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/health\/medicalmarijuana\/alt-treatment-centers\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>12. Call the dispensary and schedule your first visit.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They will sit down with you and review the laws as well as explain all about the different types of medical marijuana<\/li>\n<li>They will help you decide the best route for your child\/you<\/li>\n<li>No one is allowed into the dispensary without a medical marijuana card\n<ul>\n<li>Only the designated caregiver and child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make sure to bring your Medical Marijuana card and your driver\u2019s license, as well as your child\u2019s Medical Marijuana card and id if they have it<\/li>\n<li>You will not be let in without these<\/li>\n<li>Insurance is not accepted but a large discount is given for minors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"fb-background-color\">\n\t\t\t  <div \n\t\t\t  \tclass = \"fb-comments\" \n\t\t\t  \tdata-href = \"https:\/\/njcts.org\/tsparents\/medical-marijuana-whats-the-process\/\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-numposts = \"10\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-lazy = \"true\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-colorscheme = \"light\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-order-by = \"social\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-mobile=true>\n\t\t\t  <\/div><\/div>\n\t\t  <style>\n\t\t    .fb-background-color {\n\t\t\t\tbackground:  !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t\t.fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe {\n\t\t\t    width: 100% !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t  <\/style>\n\t\t  ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s guest post is from a TS parent in South Jersey who has done the research into medical marijuana now that TS is a qualifying condition.
