Hi, my name is Tanner, and I am a sophomore in high school in South Berwick, Maine. I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome when I was in second grade, or 7 years old. My tics were pretty bad then. I had a head shaking tic, which gave me constant headaches. I also had a tic where I would say, “Excuse me, sorry” over and over again. I also had a nose twitching tic, which I still have to this day, and finger and toe twitching.
When I was younger I had bad thoughts, saying things to people who cared about me like, “You’d be better off if I were dead.” I was hospitalized in seventh grade, and then I found happiness. I joined the TSA Youth Ambassador Program in eighth grade, and I have been happy ever since — even though I have a new tic where I yell obscenities.
It has been a struggle in school to make it through the day, but thanks to my supportive friends, I have found a way. A couple of days ago, coincidentally on the one year anniversary of Teens4TS, I created a website called TS4Life. It is a social networking site for kids with TS, and I’d love to see you there!
Yes I would love that

Maia, would you like to join the blog as a contributor, too? If so, e-mail us at teens@njcts.org!
