The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) is proud to announce Julia Funcheon as an honorable-mention recipient of the 2014 NJCTS Children’s Scholarship Award.
Funcheon, who is graduating from Fair Lawn High School, was selected for her academic achievement, community service and accomplishments as an individual with Tourette Syndrome – an inherited, misunderstood, misdiagnosed neurological disorder that affects 1 in 100 children.
Funcheon’s award essay was titled “My Story” and offered thoughtful insight into life with Tourette Syndrome. Her list of extracurricular activities reflects her accomplishments in academics and her community. Funcheon has been involved with her school’s musical productions and performed the national anthem for many sporting events.
NJCTS congratulates Funcheon – who will attend Montclair State University – on her achievements and wishes her continued success in her academic and career endeavors.
Since 2001, the NJCTS Children’s Scholarship Award has been awarded to more than 200 outstanding high school seniors in the state of New Jersey who have excelled in their schools, communities and lives – representing themselves as excellent advocates for Tourette.
