NJCTS made impactful trips to Trenton with our incredible Advocates to speak directly to legislators about the essential work we’re doing. But this isn’t just about what we’re doing—it’s about what we can achieve together when we stand united in advocacy.
Our Youth Advocates kicked off the week with an empowering educational program at the State House. There, they learned how to amplify their voices and reach out to their local legislators, making sure their messages are heard loud and clear. With the guidance of lobbying experts Christopher Hughes and Jay Redd, they gained the tools they need to make a real difference. They also had the opportunity to meet with State Senators and Assembly Members before taking a tour of the State House. The future of advocacy is in their hands—and we are so proud to watch them step into their power.
On Tuesday, Sam Regen, an Advocate, Academy Coach, and Camp Buddy, went to Trenton to speak to the NJ Assembly Budget Committee. As a current college student living with Tourette Syndrome, Sam shared his personal story and said, “The only reason I have been able to accomplish as much as I have and turn my diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome into a strength is because of NJCTS.” His words left a lasting impact on the committee, highlighting just how crucial our work is for individuals with Tourette Syndrome.
Then, on Wednesday, Youth Advocate and high school senior Jordan Fleishman took the stage in Newark before the Senate Budget Committee. Jordan’s powerful message was simple, yet profound: “NJCTS is the only organization in New Jersey dedicated to supporting people with Tourette’s Syndrome, and they can only continue their critical work if they receive the necessary funding. I ask that you please continue supporting NJCTS so they can keep helping kids like me learn to live with Tourette’s Syndrome and excel.” Jordan’s courage to speak out will help pave the way for more opportunities for kids living with Tourette Syndrome.
The battle for funding is far from over, but with the unwavering support of our community, we are making progress. But we need YOU—families, advocates, and supporters—to help push this across the finish line.
Thank you to Senator Andrew Zwicker, Senator Vin Gopal, Senator Owen Henry, Senator John F. McKeon, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, Assemblyman Balvir Singh, and Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak for stopping by Meeting Room 10 at the State House to meet and speak with our NJCTS Youth Advocates as they learned about the importance of advocacy in the state government.
