Game-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (GB-CBT) was originally developed to make the therapeutic process more palatable for children and their families who have been impacted by abuse and trauma and has since been expanded to address a wide variety of behavioral difficulties. GB-CBT is a time-limited model that delivers treatment through structured therapeutic games. The games utilized in GB-CBT were designed to allow children and families to process their difficulties in a non-threatening, participatory, and engaging manner. Additionally, therapeutic games are utilized to build a variety of skills that are important for all children including social skills, personal space and boundaries, emotional expression and identification, anger management, relaxation techniques, cognitive coping strategies, and personal safety skills. Furthermore, the games and activities included in the GB-CBT model can be easily used by clinicians to address anxiety, compulsive behaviors, tics and disruptive behavior disorders.
