Ok, your child has been diagnosed with a disorder. When and how do you tell your child? What about family? How do we tell them? What do we tell them?

Dr. Lori Rockmore served as the Clinical Director of the Tourette Syndrome Program at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University from 2005 until 2013 and remains close to the program by acting as a program consultant. She is currently a partner at Specialized Psychological Services, a group private practice in Short Hills, NJ. Dr. Rockmore received her doctoral degree from Pace University in the area of School-Clinical Child Psychology and completed her dissertation on the phenomena of rage reactions in children and adolescents with TS. She completed her clinical internship and Post Doctoral Fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Following her fellowship Dr. Rockmore acted as the training director for Mount Sinai’s Children After Trauma Care and Health Program and was a supervising psychologist at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Manhattan (now known as the New York Center for Children). Dr. Rockmore has been invited to contribute to the professional literature on TS and its associated disorders, child trauma, and the impact of chronic health conditions on children’s emotional well-being. She has also been an invited guest lecturer on many aspects of child mental health. Dr. Rockmore’s clinical work focuses on evidence based cognitive-behavioral treatment for tic disorders, body focused repetitive behaviors, the full range of anxiety disorders, depression, rage, and adjustment issues related to chronic medical conditions.
